In 1335, an Italian, Guido da Vigevano, built the first known automobile, a wind powered vehicle. The first automobile that was self-propelled, without the help of either down hill gravity or wind power, was a 3-wheeled military tractor, powered by a steam, invented by French engineer and mechanic, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot in 1769. Cugnot’s car was used by the French Army to haul artillery at a speed of 2.5 mph, stopping every ten to 15 minutes to build up steam pressure. In the 1830s, Robert Anderson of Scotland invented the first electric carriage. Early electric cars used rechargeable batteries that powered a small electric motor. These vehicles were heavy, slow, expensive, and needed to stop for recharging frequently.
In the 1880s, Both Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz invented highly successful and practical gasoline-powered vehicles. The internal combustion engine that they invented looked and worked like the engines in today’s cars. An internal combustion engine is an engine that uses the explosive combustion of fuel to push a piston inside a cylinder; the piston's movement turns a crankshaft that turns the car wheels with a chain or a drive shaft. The different types of fuel commonly used for internal combustion engines are gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. Daimler introduced his spark ignited, gasoline powered, piston engine automobile in 1884, and in 1885, Daimler and his partner Wilhelm Maybach patented what is generally recognized as the prototype of the modern gasoline engine. German mechanical engineer, Karl Benz designed and built in 1885 the world's first practical automobile to be powered by an internal-combustion engine, and on January 29, 1886, Benz received the first patent (DRP No. 37435) for a gas-fueled three-wheeled car. Benz built his first four-wheeled car in 1891. Benz was the first inventor to design an internal combustion engine that was integrated with the automobile’s chassis. Benz & Cie., the company founded by Karl Benz, became the world's largest manufacturer of automobiles by 1900.
In 1913, American car manufacturer, Henry Ford invented the assembly line, where Ford automobiles were assembled as they moved along a conveyor belt in Ford's Highland Park, Michigan plant. The assembly line dramatically reduced the production costs of automobiles by dramatically reducing their assembly time. Each of Ford's famous Model T automobiles was assembled in only 93 minutes! Ford quickly became the world's largest car manufacturer, and by 1927, 15 million Model Ts had been manufactured, and more than 80% of all cars registered throughout the world were in the United States.

The object of the Scramble Squares® puzzle game is to arrange the nine colorfully illustrated square pieces into a 12" x 12" square so that the realistic graphics on the pieces' edges match perfectly to form a completed design in every direction.
The full 9-piece puzzle creates an enormous number of possible combinations in a 3 piece x 3 piece pattern, but only one possible solution!
An educational panel of information on the subject matter of the puzzle, is on the back of the header card along with a trivia quiz. The answer to the trivia quiz is on the front of the header card hidden behind the puzzle pieces.
