Product Description
Deserts are arid regions that receive less than 10” of precipitation per year, occurring in brief and unpredictable intervals. Deserts are among the most fragile ecosystems on earth. There are four major deserts of North America, the Great Basin, the Sonoran, the Mojave and the Chihuahuan. The distinction between each desert is based upon their diverse vegetation. The Great Basin Desert extends between the Wasatch Mountains in Utah and the Sierra Nevada Mountains and covers most of Nevada and over half of Utah, as well as parts of California, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming. It has no natural watershed outlet to the sea. The the Sonoran, the Mojave and the Chihuahuan Deserts are located in the Southwestern United States. These are extremely hot and dry regions. The Sonoran Desert covers the southwestern part of Arizona, the southeastern part of California in the United States and the state of Sonora in Mexico. When the Sonoran desert is windy, sand storms occur, and if the wind blows in a circular fashion, usually in hot weather, small tornados called “dust devils” occur.
