This beautiful Millefiori Sterling Silver Vintage-style Cross pendant is approx. 2 3/4" tall and 1 5/8" wide.
It is suitable for many different necklace styles, and has been displayed on a chain to illustrate one style idea.
The following stamps are located on the back of the pendant: '925' and the Millefiori de Venecia trademark flower. (See thumbnail) A small pamphlet is included with the pendant, and contains information about Murano Millefiori glass.
Here are a few paragraphs from the pamphlet:
"The Venetian Murrina originates from ancient Roman, Alexandrian and phoenician glassware. Small segments of differently shaped and colored glass rods, the famous 'MILLEFIORI' which means 'a thousand flowers', are laid close together and then fused into tiny mosaics, each of them being absolutely unique. It owes its particular beauty to a very complicated and skilful process which was rediscovered by the glass makers of Murano in the Middle Ages. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind work of art, entirely handmade in the most famous city in the world for glassmaking: Venice."
Murano glass is only made on the islands of Murano, off the coast of Venice. Only authentic products and glassmakers whose work is based on the original Muranese glassmaking traditions are authorized to display the Murano trademark.
