This stone derives its name from the Amazon river area in Brazil where it is found. It is a potassium aluminum silicate with a hardness of 6 to 6.5. Other deposits are found in Namibia, India and Russia.

Mystic Lore: Intuitive sources say Amazonite is useful for energizing and harmonizing the heart and throat chakras, bringing an enhanced ability to clearly communicate the wisdom of the heart. It is said to remove blockages to emotional bonding with others and to help one "shine" in the world.
